December!

Hello again! I know it has been such a long time since the last update and I apologize for that. The reason for lack of updates is because we have been going through some major changes these past few months. First of all, I want to thank everyone who has contributed time, money and prayers to us. We could not have come this far without you. So, let me explain what has been happening.

As you all know, Karama House was a functioning program that had its non-profit status through UBC acting as the umbrella organization. However, it has come to all of our attention that as of right now, UBC is not able to sustain an organization of that magnitude. Therefore, we had figure out another way to keep Karama House alive. After meeting with the board and other organizations, an idea was formed.

We had decided that it would be cost effective as well as structurally stable if we had the Karama House program located on Shelter’s property. This idea takes us from being an organization to a Shelter program that will be run by my self, volunteers and Shelter’s staff.

Karama House will completely fund this through all of your donations and outside donors. This means that all the money donated will still be tax deductible because it is going to the Shelter and it is a non-profit. All the money will be held and distributed within UBC just as we had original planned. We are all very excited about this and to make things even better, I will be leaving for Kenya in December to finally get things started over there!

Like I said before, this looks a bit different than we had originally anticipated but we feel like this will be just as beneficial if not more for the young women. This will also give me a chance to find out first hand what the young women’s immediate and long term needs are.

Last on this list of new plans… I will be leaving December 28th and that is extremely soon! I’m really excited but still need help. It has been decided that while I am out there, I will not be getting paid. Therefore, any donation, monthly or just one-time would be very helpful for me. I have some loans that I still have to pay off before I go so I’m working hard to raise enough money for that.

Anyway, thanks for taking time to read this, and I will have more updates soon!
